Our Library in Swindon is open to the public for reference use.

Reference library

We hold over 60,000 books, journals and reports covering all aspects of the historic environment. You’ll find information on

  • Archaeology
  • Architecture
  • Maritime studies
  • Industrial archaeology
  • Local history
  • Aerial photography
  • Archive preservation and management

We add around 1,000 new titles each year, and we have around 400 current journal subscriptions. We also hold long runs of Country Life, The Architectural Review, The Builder, and Architect’s Journal as well as major archaeological journal titles.

Our reference material includes:

  • Victoria County History
  • Selected Post Office and Kelly’s Directories
