A photographic survey of every building in Solihull High Street was made in 1949 by the photographer G B Mason. It shows a street full of independent traders. There were a few chain stores, including still familiar names such as Boots and FW Woolworth, shown here. Other chains such as Maypole (a grocers) no longer exist.
