Abandoned miner's cottage, Sowood Lane, Whitley Lower, West Yorkshire

As mining in the 18th and early 19th century was often not intensive, pits were often abandoned and the workers would need to move to a new mine. Because of this simple two room houses were built that would be later be deserted in favour of a new area.
