Boston Castle, Rotherham, South Yorkshire

This lodge was built in 1775 for the 3rd Earl of Effingham. It commemorates the Americans' first encounter with the British at Bunker's Hill near Boston in 1775 in which the British scored a hollow victory. Effingham is known for criticising British actions in their American colonies throughout the 1770's.
