Factory, Trews Weir Lane, Exeter, Devon

The origins of Trews Weir Paper Mill are a little sketchy. The oldest parts are dated 1780 as shown on the date stone on the front of the building. This makes it a very early factory. It was a paper mill between 1834 and 1982 when it closed. From 1907 it was operated by John Pitt & sons producing paper. Before this it appears it may have been a cotton spinning mill and later served as tenement housing for the mill workers. In the mid 1990's it was incorporated into a new housing scheme called Trews Weir Reach.
