Former Tram Shelters, Belgrave Square, Darwen, Lancashire

This matching pair of tram shelters and public lavatories are dated 1902. The Darwen steam powered tram system had started in 1881. It was taken over by the Corporation in 1898. These shelters were built by the Borough Engineer, R.W Smith-Savill. One was for ladies and the other for gentlemen. They are built in an Edwardian Baroque style of architecture.
