Higher Flax Mills, Castle Cary, Somerset

The site was developed by T S Donne from 1870 onwards for the manufacture of twine and horsehair rope. In the mid 20th century long, low buildings such as that on the left were built over most of the ropewalks. A man examines rope stretched on a surviving ropewalk.
