Jack of Newbury's House, 24,Northbrook Street, Newbury, West Berkshire

A view from Northbrook Street looking down Marsh Lane, showing the gabled end of 24 Northbrook Street, also known as Jack of Newbury's House. The timber framed building dates from the early 16th century is in use as a furniture shop. Jack of Newbury is a legendary figure of early Tudor England, somthing like Dick Whittington. His story was written as a book in the 1590’s by Thomas Deloney.
