Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedfordshire

A vertical aerial photograph of the the Wrest Park estate in 1948. Wrest Park was the country estate of the De Gray family. The house was designed and built by Thomas Philip 2nd Earl de Grey in 1834 - 1839 just to the north of an earlier house. The house has a large garden to the south of it. Just below the house is the formal garden. Below them are the woodland gardens surrounded by water which forms the estate boundary. To the right of the house lie the circular remains of a maze that was just one of the unusual features of the gardens. This property is now in the care of English Heritage (2012).
