balustrade and urns attached to
north west of Nailsea Court

Garden walls, piers, steps, balustrade and urns. Walls in part probably C16,
extended C18 and C19, steps, balustrade and urn of late C19/early C20; sundial
dated 1655, probably repositioned. Rubble walls, some with stone coping, piers,
steps, balustrade and urns in limestone; bronze sundial plate set on limestone
octagonal shaft. Early range of walls attached to north west of Nailsea Court
(q.v.) extend about 40 metres to west, about 3 metres high, in random rubble,
east-west range has doorway to east and arched recess to west, possibly bee-bole
(in south-facing wall); wall turned to south and extending about 10 metres
further, stepped down once with segmental-headed door to south, continued at
about 2 metres high for about another 20 metres with stone coping. To south
east, walls extend to enclose a rectangular garden, walls about 4 metres high in
2 north-south ranges, ramped down at east and west sides; north range has central pair of square piers, rusticated, with flat top with moulded edge, about one metre high, surmounted by C19 stone urns, C20 wooden gate and 4 steps down to
garden level with flanking walls to steps, 2 further piers with urns and
balustrade between at north west corner, at south end of garden, wall is ramped
down to central C20 wooden gate. In south garden, centrally placed, sundial
with gnomon, has face of the sun and inscription "non sine lumine", in similar
style to sundial at Macquarie Farmhouse, North End, Yatton (q.v.). Low wall
extends about 27 metres to east with stone balustrade and rusticated piers with
2 urns, ramped down to east with terminal pier and flight of 9 steps.
