NEWARK ON TRENT CASTLE GATE (south east side) No.53 The Flying Circus (Formerly listed as: No.53 Crown and Mitre Hotel, previously listed as No.53 Crown and Mitre Hotel, formerly listed as NEWARK CASTLE GATE, Exchange Hotel)

19/05/71 GV II House, later a hotel at time of listing, now a public house. Early C19, with late C19 and C20 alterations. Brick with yellow brick dressings to ground floor, and slate roof. Chamfered plinth, single gable stack. Three storeys; three window range of plain sashes, with wrought iron sign bracket to left. L-plan. Above, two smaller plain sashes. Below, full width fascia cornice with curved brackets. To left, carriage entry with close boarded doors. To right, a two-leaf panelled door with overlight, flanked by single pane windows. C19 rear wing, two storeys, ten windows, has mainly plain sashes and cross casements. Included for group value.
