TQ3602NE THE GREEN, Rottingdean 577-1/60/1072 (East side) Six tombs in the churchyard of the Church of St Margaret

GV II

Six table tombs. Early C18 to early C19. Stone. 1: John Farncombe (died 1824). Approx 10 metres from south entrance to chancel. The vase shape interrupted by inscription panels on the long sides. 2: Thomas Beard (died 1728). Approx 10 metres south-west of the chancel. The handsome inscription set between panels. 3: A group of 4 tombs, approx 12 metres due south of south entrance to chancel. Jane Gleare (died 1809) and Thomas Gleare (died 1812), the inscription on an oval on the broad side, set between reeded piers; Charles Gleare (died 1736), the vase shaped decorated with gadroons and egg-and-dart; and immediately to the north of that, a plain table tomb of early date, with a moulded top and all inscriptions now lost.
