How can I find out more about volunteering opportunities?
We are committed to involving volunteers in our work. As a result of our unique role within the heritage sector our volunteer roles are extremely varied. Please see our Volunteering section for more information on opportunities that are currently available.
I'm interested in the heritage sector. How can I find out more about the career options available?
Our aim is to champion our historic places and advise the Government and others to help today's generation get the best out of our heritage and make sure it is protected for future generations. To find out more about what we do, please see the What We Do section.

Can I submit a CV instead of an application form?
For certain positions we do accept CVs, and it will be clearly stated on the job advertisement is a CV is required. For all other posts you will need to complete an online application form.
Can I use the same application form to apply for more than one job?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for any vacancies which interest you - but please check that you meet the criteria for the role before applying. Once you have completed your personal details on the first page, your previous application will normally be recalled. You can then tailor and amend the responses for the other job(s) before submitting your application.
Once I start an application, can I save it and complete it at a later date?
Yes, you can save your application at any time and come back to it later.
How will I know if my online application form has been submitted successfully?
You will receive an email confirming that we have received your application form. There is normally a two-hour delay before this is received. Please make sure you check your spam filters, but if you have not received an email within 24 hours please contact us via hehrsharedservicescentre@HistoricEngland.org.uk.
At what stage of the application process do you approach referees for references?
We only take up references once you have been offered a position with us.
Will Historic England contact me regarding the outcome of my application?
The majority of communication during the recruitment process will be via email. Please make sure that you enter your details carefully and check your inbox regularly for updates.
