We recognise that your salary is only a part of your employment package.
We've developed a broad range of benefits that you could be entitled to when you join us. These include direct and indirect financial benefits, a range of leave options and tailored development opportunities. Other benefits include discounts with a number of retailers and products, as well as free entry into all English Heritage sites. We regularly review the benefits we offer, so those listed here are subject to change.

Your pension is a very valuable part of your package. At Historic England you'll have access to a competitive pension.
Pension scheme membership includes a Death in Service benefit. The payment is based on either two or three times your pensionable pay, depending on the pension scheme you participate in.
We are keen to help employees who are working parents. We offer a childcare voucher scheme so parents can buy childcare out of their gross salary. If you use the scheme you'll save on your tax and national insurance contributions.
We help towards the cost of travel to work in the form of interest free loans to our employees. Commuting loans are available for trains and coach season tickets, car parking or for buying a bicycle.
We make it easy for all employees to make regular donations to charities. Our tax efficient and convenient Payroll Giving service deducts through your monthly pay so you make a net saving.
You'll have 28 days' holiday (pro rata) when you start work with us, in addition to bank holidays. This will increase to 30 days after two years' service. It increases again to 33 days after five years' service.
Annual holiday purchase scheme
You can request to buy up to ten days additional annual leave each year (on a pro rata basis where applicable). If approved, the cost of buying the additional leave is then deducted from your pay.
Enhanced maternity/adoption pay
We offer a generous maternity/adoption package. You could take up to 28 weeks leave at full pay and 11 weeks on statutory maternity/adoption pay (subject to your length of service and National Insurance contributions).
Enhanced paternity pay
If you're a new parent, you can take up to 10 days' paid paternity leave if your partner has recently given birth or adopted a child (subject to length of service).
If you have a child under 18 or a child who is disabled, unpaid parental leave of up to four weeks is available each year. This is subject to length of service and any previous parental leave taken with other employers.
We will provide you with special leave arrangements if you are faced with a personal crisis or an emergency involving a dependant. We can also grant special leave for activities such as public duties or service with the Reserve Forces.
Enhanced sick pay
We also have generous sick pay arrangements.
Varied training programme
We recognise that our employees are our most important asset and provide various training opportunities to enable you to develop your career.
Personal development leave
After five years of service, we can offer you the opportunity to develop yourself in a way that would not ordinarily be available through experience at work or more conventional training programmes.
We will offer you (and your partner) the opportunity to attend pre-retirement courses when you approach retirement.
Subscriptions to professional bodies
We will reimburse a professional or similar subscription if it's relevant and essential to your work.
Flexible working and well-being benefits
Flexible working times
We allow some informal flexibility around start, finish and break times. You may find this helpful for your commute and fitting in your responsibilities outside of work.
During busy times, when extra working hours are needed, you can take extra hours worked as time off in lieu at a later date. This arrangement needs approval to ensure it meets business requirements.
Free eye tests
We'll reimburse you the cost of eye tests if you use a computer screen for your work. We'll also contribute to the cost of glasses or contact lenses if the test shows that a new prescription is specifically needed for your job.
Occupational Health (OH) service
Our OH service provides particular expertise about the relationship between health and work. The service also includes expert medical advice in appropriate circumstances.
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
We provide access to a free and confidential EAP. The programme offers confidential practical help and counselling on a wide range of issues including marital and family problems, bereavement, health or psychological problems, 24 hours a day.
We offer changing and shower facilities at our larger offices with bike parking facilities at many of our locations. The Historic England Sports and Social Club support various activities from yoga, scrabble, quizzes, go-karting to five-a-side football as well as organising fun and some unusual events, theatre trips and 'access all areas' site visits.
