The Historic Environment Record (HER) for Merseyside is based at Merseyside Environmental Advisory Service (MEAS), hosted by Sefton Council, and serves the Liverpool City Region (Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St. Helens and Wirral). The HER is a record of monuments, historic buildings, findspots, archaeological events and historic landscapes within the region. MEAS adopted the HER in April 2014 and began a process of digitising and enhancing the HER, working with the paper Sites and Monuments Record files dating back to the 1970s and with the grey literature of archaeological reports for Merseyside, in order to make it usable as a source of sound planning evidence.
