Johnston Monument at Gilston Parish Church at south west Corner of Churchyard, Gilston Lane, Gilston - East Hertfordshire

Monument. 1923, Carved stone crucifixion group. Christ carved in relief on tapering cross with slightly tapered arms. In fine letter cutting on cubic base-block an inscription in memory of Geoffrey Stewart Johnston killed in Flanders 1915. An outstanding monumental group with distinctive relief figure-carving and fine letter cutting. Part of a group with the medieval parish church. The top of the cross has separated from the base and is currently lying separately within the graveyard. Parish considering sources of fund raising.
