Church of St Ignatius, Meadow Street, now known as Syro-Malabar Cathedral of St Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception - Preston

Designed by JJ Scholes in 1833 and extended in 1858 and 1885-6, this is an early example of a Gothic Revival church built in a Perpendicular style. Comprising tower, transepts, and tall narrow nave with low broad aisles, it forms the focal point of a formal square. Elements including the aisle roofs have been repaired over time to address water ingress and corrosion of iron cramps. However, threats to the roof and masonry remain, with rot and movement evident. The congregation is focussed on raising funds and addressing these issues.
