Church of St Michael, Great Torrington - Torridge

Mainly Perpendicular with some fabric C13. Western end rebuilt 1646-51 following an explosion in the Civil War. Tower 1828, by WB Cock. Chancel with flanking vestries, nave with aisles, south west porch, west tower with spire. Mixed local rubble stones, limestone dressings with slate roofs. Lias stonework of tower very poor. Straight joints to arrises of spire, and rusting iron beams within. Counterweight structure rotting. The church was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant for Places of Worship in 2016 and repairs are expected to be completed at the end of 2018.
