Church of St Paul, Church Bank, Jarrow - South Tyneside
C7 foundation, part of the monastery of St Paul. Formerly two separate churches: eastern Saxon church (now chancel); central tower C9 to C12; western former basilica (now nave), rebuilt in 1782. 1866 alterations and additions of large north aisle and north porch by George Gilbert Scott. Restored in 1972 and roofs repaired in summer 2008. A 2021 structural assessment identified structural defects on the tower. Halting repairs have been undertaken, and netting installed on the SW corner. Discussions are on-going regarding a long-term solution.
