Old Postern, Dartington - South Hams

A late medieval house of considerable importance and complexity. Formerly the parsonage, extended and remodelled in the 1860s by William White and further modified in 1928-9 by Rex Gardner for the Elmhirsts; most recently the building has provided accommodation for the Schumacher College at Dartington. It closed for use in November 2018 after concerns were raised about the slate roof covering, which is in a poor state of repair and not weathertight in several areas. The owners are in discussion with Historic England and the Local Authority regarding a programme of major repairs to the roof.
