Old Postern, Dartington - South Hams

A late medieval house of considerable importance and complexity. Formerly the parsonage, extended and remodelled in the 1860s by William White in1928-9 by Rex Gardner for the Elmhirsts; most recently the building has provided accommodation for the Schumacher College at Dartington. It closed for use in November 2018 due to concerns about the poor condition of its slate roof covering, which is not weathertight in several areas. Funding is available for repairs and a schedule of works is being prepared as part of ongoing pre-application discussions between the Trust, the LPA and Historic England.
