Plumpton Rocks, Plompton - Harrogate
Mid-C18 pleasure grounds laid out with advice from John Carr as the grounds for a country house built within a pre-existing park of C16 origin. Painted by JMW Turner in 1798. Landscape designed around an artificial lake contained by dam, probably designed by John Carr. Lake surrounded by picturesque sandstone outcrops, often surmounted by trees. The lake has been de-silted and the dam has been repaired. Historic England grant has been offered towards further works which are required to meet the Reservoirs Act and are expected to be complete in 2020.
