Swainston, Calbourne - Isle of Wight (UA)

Mid-late C18 woodland pleasure grounds, set in parkland, with intersecting avenues and water features incorporating earlier fishponds. The reconstructed house and repaired gardens are now a hotel, but some key features lie in the remainder of the estate in private ownership where parkland has been converted to arable land, and light industrial use or multiple access is affecting the historic value. The southern portion of the estate, including a temple, is separated from the core by a road. A joint approach to deliver a funded Parkland Plan to sustain and enhance significance could assist here.
