Anchor Studio, 4, The Meadow, Penzance - Cornwall (UA)

Anchor Studio was built in 1888 by Arthur Bateman for Stanhope Forbes RA with rubble and weatherboarded timber frame walls and a scantle slate roof. It is a good example of a late Victorian purpose-built artist’s studio. One of a group of studios built nearby for the Newlyn School artists, it is in a very fragile condition needing constant repairs. There are bad leaks with large sections of slate roofing starting to slip, parts of the external timber cladding in poor condition, the lower floor area blocked off suffering from extensive damp. National Lottery Heritage Fund repair grant awarded.
