Church of Holy Trinity, Church Street East, Sunderland - Sunderland

Former parish church, in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust since 1988. Built 1718-19, with a rounded eastern apse added in 1735. The fabric of the building is deteriorating and there is structural movement, particularly at the east end. A substantial grant was awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2018 to repair the building and establish it as a new cultural venue ('The Canny Space'). Urgent temporary repairs were completed with Historic England funding in March 2016. Substantive repairs are due to start on site in the autumn of 2019.
