Church of Holy Trinity, Church Street East, Sunderland - Sunderland

Former parish church with west tower, in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust since 1988. Built 1718-19, with a rounded eastern apse added in 1735. The fabric of the building is deteriorating and there is some structural movement, particularly at the east end. A substantial grant was awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2018 to repair the building and establish it as a new cultural venue ('The Canny Space'). Urgent temporary repairs were completed with Historic England funding in March 2016 to safeguard the building pending the implementation of The Canny Space project.
