Ruins of Merdon Castle, Hursley - Winchester

Norman ringwork with the remains of a standing gatehouse surviving as core work. The gatehouse remains are overgrown and in need of consolidation. Discussions have been recommenced with the owner regarding long term repair and management. Historic England is assisting with an application for Countryside Stewardship grant for a development phase. A Historic England Heritage At Risk grant application for repairs to consolidate the ruins is expected to be received for a 2020/21 project.
