Electric Palace Cinema, King's Quay Street, Harwich - Tendring

Cinema of 1911. Architect: Harold Ridley Hooper of Ipswich. A rare survival from the early days of purpose-built cinema retaining many of its original features, which was restored and re-opened in 1972 by the Harwich Electric Palace Trust. National Lottery Heritage Fund grant aided project underway: however asbestos dust has been discovered on the top of the fibrous plaster ceiling. Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund have provided significant extra funds and work is on site. Completion estimated December 2019/ early 2020.
