The Beneficial School, Kent Street, Portsea - Portsmouth, City of (UA)

Charity school of 1784 and 1836, now in use as a dance-drama school/theatre by the Groundlings Theatre Trust. An updated condition survey has been completed which has identified problems including with the roof structure and windows. The governance of the building needs to be rationalised, so that a comprehensive funding package for the necessary repairs can be sought. Historic England, the Theatres Trust and Groundlings have had positive meetings about the way forward. Repairs to some of the front elevation windows have been successfully completed with the aid of a Covid 19 Emergency grant.
