The building, which became redundant following development of new facilities to the rear, has been purchased by Tower Hamlets Council. Plans to convert the building into a Civic Centre are progressing, as part of the new masterplan for Whitechapel. Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent have been granted and works are underway with expected completion in 2022.
