Definition: National Lottery

The National Lottery is licensed and regulated by the National Lottery Commission. Some of the proceeds of sale of lottery tickets support 'good causes' which include the arts, heritage, sport, charities and community and voluntary groups as well as projects concerned with health, education and the environment. The proceeds ear marked for heritage are called the Heritage Lottery Fund and are distributed by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
