Definition: Planning Permission

Planning permission is required for carrying out of any development of land. It may be granted a number of ways by express planning permission granted by a local planning authority, or Secretary of State at appeal.

Development Consent Order, Mayoral Development order, Local Development Order and Neighbourhood Development Orders. The Secretary of State has issued a general permitted development order that gives permission for various works across the whole country.
