Definition: Principles of Selection

“This guidance sets out the general principles that the Secretary of State [for Culture, Media & Sport] applies when deciding whether a building is of special architectural or historic interest and should be added to the list of buildings compiled under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. The Secretary of State cannot take any other factors into account when considering his decision.”
