Who are some of The Old Vic’s most famous patrons? What happened to the fourth level of the theatre? Who are the women who saved the building? Are there any ghosts lurking backstage?

For London History Day, we’re offering you the chance to explore behind-the-scenes of The Old Vic and discover 200 years of theatrical history. The English National Opera, the Sadler’s Wells dance company and the National Theatre all began their lives here. It’s been a tavern, a college, a coffee house, and a lecture hall, and it narrowly avoided the fate of becoming a bingo hall. Acting legends from Laurence Olivier to Judi Dench have all performed on our stage. For a chance to follow in their footsteps, learn about The Old Vic’s fascinating past and see our theatre in a new light, join Ned – our Stage Door Manager and Old Vic veteran of more than 30 years – on this very special History Tour in celebration of our Bicentenary for London History Day on 31 May.

Tickets are £20 and include a slice of cake and a glass of bubbly.

Please note: for your comfort and security, you may be subject to additional checks on your visit to London theatres - we appreciate your patience and understanding while these are taking place.
