Edward Hubbard (2 July 1937 – 31 May 1989) was an English architectural historian. He worked with Pevsner on several volumes of the Buildings of England series. He was based in Liverpool, and jointly published A Guide to Port Sunlight Village in 1988. He corresponded extensively with the National Buildings Record and later the National Monuments Record , both in ordering copies of prints for use in his publications and research, and also in recommending threatened buildings in Liverpool for the NBR to photograph.
The collection comprises circa 350 small format negatives and some corresponding file prints, dating from the late 1950s and early 1960s, many of which were probably taken for Hubbard’s work on the Buildings of England volumes that he contributed to, namely South Lancashire, Cheshire and Staffordshire. There are approximately 60 photographs of churches in Liverpool, including St John’s Church, Fairfield, St Luke’s Church, St Chrysostom, Everton, and Hope Street Church.
In addition there are approximately 200 images of secular sites including the Raven Hotel, Shrewsbury (now demolished), Merebank and Cleveley in Liverpool, Eaton Hall, Sweeney Hall, Kirkstall Abbey Gatehouse, Hinton Hall, and buildings in Bathwick, Melbourne, Kelham, Chester and Liverpool.
Alongside these images are approximately 90 photographs of railway stations, including three showing Euston Station during demolition. Other railway stations represented include Chester General Station, Matlock Bath, Darley Dale, Bakewell, Oswestry, Gobowen, Rowsley, Hassop and Cromford.
