Description

The cross is of the 'Cross of St John of the Hospital' form, associated with medieval crusading Hospitaller Knights and may indicate that this building - or the carving's original setting - was associated with the medieval Newland Hospitallers Preceptory, to the south of the stable building, on the site of the later Newland Hall. This outbuilding was possibly a coach house or cart house.
