Description

The gatehouse dates to c1500, and was built for Prior Castell. It has two storeys and a single bay with a ground floor arch under a dripmould, and a chapel above. To the north is a lodge. The ribbed vault has a large central boss, which consists of the See of Durham's coat of arms carried by an angel.
