Description

The house is now part of Bootham School, which neared completion in 1804. It was designed by Peter Atkinson for Sir Richard Vanden Bempde Johnstone. The fireplace has a carved pattern of squares in the surround and a relief panel on the frieze, showing a figure kneeling towards a cherub, who stands next to a sculpture.
