The current house is an early 17th century rebuild of a 16th century house. It was divided in the 18th century and was restored in the 19th century. The house is situated on Minster Yard, north-east of York Minster. The Princesses' Room has a fireplace with moulded cornice with some carved details, and an overhead painting of a girl with a tambourine. Over the painting are garlands of foliage and an open pediment.
The house is now cared for by the National Trust.
