Description

The column shafts in the chancel of St Swithin's Church feature carved capitals, the subjects of which are rare within the surviving examples of Romanesque sculpture in England. The capital on the south wall depicts the Nativity, with Mary reclining on a bed and an angel drawing back a curtain.
