Carlisle Cathedral has forty six choir stalls, each with a misericord. The stalls and misericords are believed to have been erected between 1400 and 1419. This misericord, in the twenty second stall from the west on the south side, depicts a mermaid holding a circular mirror in her left hand. The misericord is supported by a leaf on the left and right.
