Description

Detail of a black marble Tournai font dating between 1150-1200, with a highly decorated square bowl and modern base. The most visible side of the font bowl has arcading with small foliage designs above them, whilst the side to the left, which is harder to see, has a more intricate pattern. The base is modern, but the shafts also appear to be rebuilt, with the underside of the bowl looking intact. The four smaller shafts have a single leaf carved on top, which reach to the corners of the square base.
