Description

The photographer’s notes state: ‘General view of the city from the bottom of Old Park Hill, above Perry Road. Spire of St John the Baptist's on left, St Peter's tower (dark) in front of the gasometer, then come Christ Church's, St Mary-le-Port's, All Saints', St Nicholas's; St Thomas's, and finally St Stephen's on extreme right. The Temple Church is hidden by St Nicholas's. Bright evening, Just before 6 p.m. (Greenwich time).'

Noted in red; 'As already mentioned elsewhere, the churches of St Peter, St Mary-le-Port and St Nicholas and also Temple Church were all grievously damaged in the Nov. 24 1940 air raid.'
