Part of the early-twelfth century wall painting surrounding the chancel arch in the Church of St Botolph, Hardham. This scene depicts Christ in a Jewish temple. These are the earliest known wall paintings in England.

Description

The extremely well preserved wall paintings at St Botolph's were rediscovered in 1866 after being whitewashed within a century of their being originally painted. St Botolph's Church dates from the eleventh century.
