In 1958, a major restoration project began at Stonehenge. The trilithon which had fallen in 1797, and two other stones which had fallen in 1900, were to be restored, along with others in danger of collapse. Work continued into 1959. The trilithon shown in this photograph was re-erected. The Ministry of Works allowed this work on the basis that it would enhance the monument's value and make it easier to understand.
The man in this photograph is the photographer's father.
