Handforth Hall is a large timber-framed country house, built in 1562 for Sir Urian Brereton. It was altered in the early seventeenth century, with restoration work by successive generations of the Brereton family. The house was in a dilapidated state when this photograph was taken; the photograph is likely to have been requested to record the condition of the building before renovation/ alteration works were carried out.
