Description

The photographer's notes state: Back of the above building (nos 101 on L., 99 & 97 on R.) on left and "The Cottage" (formerly coach house to Cliefden House) on right from N.E. Modern Garages in foreground on side of garden. Early morning'.

97-101 Eltham High Street was formerly a private residence, built in the early 18th century, known as Cliefden House but by the time this photograph was taken it had been divided into shops.

The 'Cottage' (95A Eltham High Street) was located just to the north-west of Cliefden House. It is still standing althouth the garages have since been demolished.
