Description

The photographer's notes state: 'Block of cottages on the east side of the above road, opposite and just north of Marshall's House, at the north end of the village. (Formerly a beer house)'.

When these cottages were earmarked for demolition during a road widening scheme in the 1960's it was discovered that they were actually built around an intact medieval hall house of four bays. The medieval house was then dismantled and, in 1975, given to the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Sussex who have since reconstructed it on site.
