Description

The photograph shows the rear of a pottery works facing the River Thames. It is recorded on the negative as being 'Millichamp's Eathernware Department' (the front of which can be seen in BB98/20528), but other sources provide different locations for the site. Other possible locations include Smith's Pottery on Princes Street or a pottery works on Upper Fore Street.

As the entire area was redeveloped with the construction of the Albert Embankment between 1866 and 1869, it has not been possible to establish which location is correct.
