Description

Golden Square is likely to have been designed by Sir Christopher Wren, and construction of the square began around the 1670s. The square became a political and ambassadorial district in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the architect of the electricity works as 'Stanley Peach', which refers to Charles Stanley Peach, an architect based in Carlton Chambers on Regent Street at the time of the works' construction.
