Monkseaton was served by a station which opened in 1864, and the current station opened in 1915 on the Newcastle and Tynemouth New Coast Railway. The station building has a single storey of red brick with stone dressings. There are seven central bays of five windows with stone arches overhead and two arch walkways with stone voussoirs. The central section is flanked by projecting gabled bays and single storey wings.
