Description

At this stage in the life of the Stonehenge landscape, the land has been largely cleared of trees. Burial mounds of local chieftains, constructed of heaped chalk and earth, can be seen on the skyline and in the foreground-right. This illustration was created by artist Ivan Lapper. A note on the mount attached to the painting states that it was commissioned for reproduction on information panel number 2 at the site. It was also reproduced on pages 24-25 of the 1991 and 2002 English Heritage guidebooks for Stonehenge and its neighbouring monuments (and also in subsequent reprints of these editions).
